You Owe Me One

I remember you.
You were my world,
And ripped it apart, laughing.

No apology will change that,
Promises won’t heal the hurt,
You have destroyed something.
Something wonderful.

Spiteful words,
Hurtful thoughts,
Keeping it “my fault”.

I left.
Escaped.
Survived.
Still recovering four years later.
But I no longer have to please you.
Appease you.
Surrender to you.

You did not break me,
Like some wild stallion.
You stabbed me,
Over and over and over.
So I said goodbye.
Forever.

Despite what you did,
You only owe me one thing.

Your absence.
